2011 Back to School Drive, Health Fair and Business Expo
On Saturday, August 13, 2011, the Annual Back to School Drive, Health Fair and Business Expo was held at the PlazAmericas Mall in Houston, Texas. Hundreds of volunteers along with community leaders and corporate partners donated their time and money to make this a very memorable and successful event.
School supplies for the upcoming HISD school year were distributed to approximately 7200 students grades K-5. The students and parents were also given the opportunity to receive free health exams and consultation at the health fair as well as receive valuable information and services from the local business partners at the business expo.
As an added bonus, the kids were treated to a book reading and signing by Sam E. Bromley, the author of “Hunka Chunka Monkey Shapes Up“. In addition, the kids got to meet wrestler Chaz Taylor and former Houston Rockets and current Washington Wizards point guard Mike James.
It was definitely and honor and privilege to work with all of the volunteers, community leaders and partners.

Event:PACC – Sheila Jackson Lee Dinner
I had the opportunity to attend and photograph a PACC dinner held in honor of Congresswoman Sheila Jackson Lee at the Gold Ribbon Restaurant. Also in attendance were friends of the Congresswoman, Anthony Referente and Lee Arellano, running for Judge in the 313th Juvenile District Court and 270th Civil District Court respectively.
After fielding questions from the audience, the Congresswoman was presented with certificate of appreciation awards from both Mrs. Marie Mercado, FACOST Chair and Mr. Nelvin Adriatico, PACC Texas South Region Chair.

Event:P.A.C.C.-Texas Organizes Food Drive
The Philippine-American Chamber of Commerce in Houston hosted their annual Christmas Party – “A Tradition of Giving” and also organized a food drive benefiting the Houston Food Bank on December 21, 2009 at the Gold Ribbon Bakery & Restaurant.
The Houston Food Bank is a non-profit organization that provides hunger relief for homeless shelters, church food pantries, nutrition sites for children and the elderly and other agencies.
Dinner, a zumba demonstration, a raffle, singing and line dancing was on the itinerary. The highlight of the evening was an impromptu Christmas caroling performed by the board of directors.
The board of directors, members and guests donated their valuable time and money to help raise funds and awareness during the “season of giving” where “one food basket makes a huge difference.”
Event:PACC Texas Mix and Mingle
On November 12th, the Philippine American Chamber of Commerce hosted the Texas Mix and Mingle at Yao’s Restaurant. The event provided an opportunity for everyone to promote their businesses and meet fellow entrepreneurs. Appetizers were served, a raffle conducted and special guest Ira Perez performed. A d.j. provided the music and eventually coaxed everyone to line dance. Everyone had a great time!
